Envelope Pillow Slip Covers

I've already admitted that I am unashamedly addicted to pinterest, but unfortunately most of the things I pin don't ever make it off of the computer screen and into real life. Today however, I can pat myself on the back because not only did I actually MAKE something I saw on pinterest, I did it on a SEWING MACHINE. This girl - who sewed the top of her apron to the bottom of her apron when her grandma tried to teach her to sew - made 2 pillow slip covers! By MYSELF. And... wait for it... I even figured out how to thread the bobbin. I'm not going to lie. I was pretty pleased with myself.

Here's the link to my pinterest which will take you to the site that the original idea came from.

Here's my take on the instructions:

1.) Buy your choice of fabric and either pillow forms or old pillows that need to be covered.

2.) Measure and cut fabric. Width should be 1 inch wider than your pillow and length should be 2 1/2 times longer than your pillow.
3.) Lay fabric down so the side you want shown is facing you. Fold up about 1/3 of the length of the fabric and then fold 1/3 of that back down. Its hard to see in this picture because of the way the fabric is but if you look close you can see how I've folded the fabric up so the white side is showing and then back down to see the cowboys side again.
4.) Now fold the top of the fabric down so that you partially cover the fold you made in the previous step. There should be a just a little strip of the fabric that you want to see showing.
5.) Next pin the raw edges to keep everything together for you to sew on the machine.  (Can you see my little red pin? My lack of photography skills are coming through in the picture...)
6.) Sew the edges, Curbly.com recommends using 1/2 seem edge. I wasn't really sure how to measure that, because my fabric kept measuring a 1 inch seam so I just eye balled it. Thankfully it worked out!

7.) Once you've sewn the edges turn the fabric inside out (or right side in?) so that you have an opening to slip the pillow into.

Heres my pillow half in the pillow case. I was getting pretty excited at this point because I realized my creation was actually going to work!

TA DA! The Finished Product! It took me a while to do the first one because I kept second guessing all of my measurements, but once that was finished and I realized it worked...it took me less than 10 minutes for the second one. I'm not sure if thats a time to be proud of in the sewing world, but in Meghan world it was a RECORD!

I picked Dallas Cowboys fabric for my future hubby. These are for him to put up in his man cave that he's working on. I think I'll save them back for Valentines day. <3

    1. Its SOOO easy! I had been looking all over for throw pillows for Mark and I's front room and finally settled on ones that I wasn't really in love with. Now that I know I can make the slip covers, I might take the others back and make new ones myself!
